WHO ARE THE 118?
We currently have 24 individuals, groups, or families who have made a pledge as part of THE 118: Anonymous, Azulay Family Foundation, Arlene and Keith Bronstein and family, Gabe Carimi, Kenny Dichter, Todd Deutsch, Mark and Michelle Grossmann, Craig and Ruth Gruber, Seth Henslovitz, Jeff
and Michelle Jaffe, Harold Kaplan, David and Barbara Lansing, Irv Lewis,
Eric and Justine Purther, Joseph Rubach, Ricky Sandler,
David Sarnoff, Michael and Bari Schlesinger, Michael Steinberg, Craig Tamchin, Josh
Tarnow, Victor Temkin, Glenn L. Udell, Rachel and Jason Zimmerman.
Last spring, Hillel’s Executive Director, Greg Steinberger, and Hillel’s Campaign Chairman, Ricky Sandler (class of 1991), met with Kenny Dichter (class of 1990) to discuss the status of Hillel’s capital campaign. With the campaign's need to quickly meet thebuilding goal and the $3 million Endowment, the idea of THE 118 was born. While Ricky and Mara, Kenny and Shoshana, and a handful of alumni from their classes had already been involved and invested in the campaign to build a new Hillel facility, they realized that they could and should get more of their peers involved in this effort.
The objective of THE 118 is to create a way to bring together a large group of alumni to collectively make a huge impact on Jewish life on the UW-Madison campus.
Everyone is welcome. The first 118 people who make a minimum contribution of $1,800 per year over 5 years, or a total pledge of $9,000 to UW-Hillel’s capital campaign, qualify as members of THE 118.
Thanks to a generous supporter, there is now a special $1 million matching grant incentive. For those who make a gift of $10,000 or more--your gift will be matched dollar for dollar--up to $1,000,000. Therefore, if you and an additional 99 people committed to the campaign today, we can easily meet our Endowment goal this year.
It is a chance to leave your legacy on the UW campus, both as part of this group and as an individual. As a member of THE 118 you will have a Shabbat prayer book dedicated in your honor (or in memory of a loved one—whatever you choose); there will be a plaque in your honor on Hillel’s main naming wall commemorating your involvement in THE 118. Additionally, there are several meaningful programs and staff positions available for underwriting/naming. Please contact Jill Weinberg Pfeiffer for more information: jpfeiffer@uwhillel.org
