While Hillel is a Jewish student organization, today Hillel’s program and mission has become distinctly universal: to enrich the lives of our young adults so they may enrich the world. Hillel achieves this mission by offering an award winning program to the UW campus; providing meaningful leadership opportunities for students; and offering experiential service work, travel and volunteer opportunities to engage students in meaningful activities and experiences.
Hillel at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is the second oldest Hillel in the United States, founded in 1925. Today, it not only serves UW’s Jewish students, but also the greater campus community of forty thousand students. For over eighty years Hillel has enriched the UW campus by offering a welcoming home-away-from-home for Jewish students, and by bringing people of all cultures and backgrounds together by offering educational, social and cultural programming free and open to the entire campus community. UW Hillel currently employs six full-time staff and four interns. UW Hillel supports 23 student groups and offers over 400 programs and activities each year.
